The are literally thousands of colors to choose from for your granite counter tops, and we want you to make the right choice. We can discuss colors that will complement your cabinets and kitchen decor perfectly.

It does require special maintenance and granite is very heavy, it can be too much for existing cabinetry and if you live in a frame house, may not be appropriate, the additional weight has been known to put floors and cabinet doors out of kilter!  Most of the time though, it is not a problem – our experts know, so take some time to discuss your requirements with one of our helpful people.

Engineered Stone

Stone surfaces are a wonderful eye-catching touch to a kitchen, and can give a soft and chic look.  Natural stone must be sealed at least once a year or it shows up stains and splashes.  Engineered stone on the other hand is easily maintained.  We use only the highest quality engineered stone from well-known manufacturers such as:

  • DuPont Zodiaq®
  • LG Viatera®
  • Cambria Quartz, Silestone®
  • HanStone®
  • Quartz Hanex®

It is extremely durable, stain-resistant, and non-porous and contains 93% quartz – an extremely hard and impervious stone.

It comes in an enormous range of colors, so let one of our kitchen experts help you decide what’s best for you, that will match or contrast with your custom-built or existing cabinetry perfectly.

Laminates

Formica, Nevamar, and Wilsonart are well known names and produce some of the most common kitchen counter surfaces which are plastic coated, have a smooth surface, and can be cleaned easily.

They can be cut to exact size and then trimmed across bare ends. These come in a wide range of colors, are easily maintained, are durable and inexpensive.

The main disadvantage is that scratches and chips cannot be repaired, and any seams are visible and can eventually allow liquids to penetrate.

Wood or Butcher Block

A properly installed butcher block surface in a kitchen is one of the best surfaces to work with.  It is warm and very attractive to look at.  Cuts can be sanded out, they can be scrubbed and sanitized relatively easily, and resealed or re-oiled as necessary.

Hot pans and burns can be a problem though. They are not as durable as stone or granite countertops, simply because of their porosity and relative softness compared to stone, but if you are prepared to maintain your butcher block counter tops properly they will last for many years.

Normally made from hardwoods such as maple or oak, they can be sealed and left with a natural look or stained to match your decor.

Stainless Steel Counters

If your home is ultra-modern and you already have stainless steel appliances, go the whole hog with stainless steel countertops. They are light, extremely durable, resist high temperatures and require little maintenance – that’s why they are used in the majority of restaurant kitchens.

Seamless countertops are constructed according to exact specifications from the best grade steel available. The downside is that they can create a lot of noise, look rather industrial and are very expensive to fabricate.

Marble

Marble is very beautiful but is not recommended for kitchen countertops.  It needs constant maintenance, is porous and sucks up oil and stains that are nearly impossible to remove. It does chip, and scratch easily too.

On the upside it is waterproof to a certain extent, and will resist low heat.  It’s a very good and attractive choice for a kitchen island but we do not recommend it be used for main kitchen counters.  It also extremely expensive.
